This was a really short visit. I talked to one server and one front desk associate. I don’t have much to say about it so it will be more of a photo review rather than one of my long detailed reviews.
This Sheraton hotel is connected to the Overland Park Convention Center just south of downtown Kansas City. The hotel recently completed a renovation of the property, making it an ideal spot if you are headed for a convention.
The hotel features an indoor heated pool, a fitness center, business center, and a bar and grille. Overnight valet parking is available at a reasonable $18, and they also offer complimentary self-parking.
I didn’t want to use points for my stay as I was saving my last few for an upcoming trip. After checking the price on the SPG website and saw they were offering $265.04, I knew I could do better. After checking Priceline, I saw I could get the hotel for much cheaper. After placing a few bids in the area, I ended up getting it for $101.09. I usually book direct for the points and stay credits, but sometimes it just doesn’t make any sense when you can save over $100 on a one-night stay.
Everything went according to plan. I was politely checked-in, and I had no complaints. Nothing to take note of here.
Standard king rooms are 338 sq ft. As I said, this is a base room; not much else to say about it that the photos don’t show.
The bed was firm, but the pillows were really soft. I usually find that renovated Sheraton’s have great bedding. Even though the bed was firmer than what I prefer, I still thought it was very comfortable. As for the nightstands, I don’t recall whether they had easily accessible outlets. From the photos, it doesn’t appear they have any.
The coffee maker wasn’t great, but I wasn’t expecting much.
The Wi-Fi was great; I had no problems while surfing the web.
The view was good. Anytime I get an unobstructed view like this, I can’t complain.
Standard procedure here, nothing really to talk about. The toiletries weren’t great and neither was the hairdryer– pretty lackluster.
The highlight of the hotel was the indoor heated pool. The deepest part was only five feet, but the Jacuzzi was nice when the jets were on.
The patio just outside of the pool was nice. I’m sure during the summer this is a great spot for drinks and to socialize. The day I was there it was a bit cold, and the wind was blowing about 40 mph.
The gym was spacious and had one weight machine and some free weights. I really appreciated the resistance bands and yoga mat.
OP1906 Bar & Grille is their main dining restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I ordered the loaded jumbo tots with bacon, cheese, chipotle BBQ sauce, and green goddess dressing. 6.5/10. I usually love tots, but these just didn’t do it for me. I do want to note the service was really attentive though.
Like I said in the beginning of the review, I only talked to two hotel employees, and my stay was very brief. The two I did speak with were great, so I’ll give them an 8.5/10.
There are a lot of good hotel options in and around Overland Park and for $101. This is a great hotel option, but for $265, this would not be my first choice. If the price is right or you just have to stay at the convention center, this is the spot, but if it’s not, I’d find somewhere else to stay.
Have you stayed here, What are your thoughts?
