Hotel
Springfield’s only AAA four diamond award winner and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Hotel Vandivort has brought life to downtown Springfield. The building goes all the way back to 1906 when it was originally built as a Masonic Temple. The hotel transformed into office space in the 1980s. Then in 2013, local brothers John and Billy McQueary who owned a family business across four generations decided it was time to bring an upscale boutique hotel to their community.
The hotel has 50 rooms and suites and constructed their lobby to be downtown’s living room where you can meet for drinks at the bar, have dinner in their restaurant, or just lounge in one of their multiple lounge areas scattered throughout the lobby. Other amenities include a fitness center for hotel guest, and a public business center. Overnight valet parking is $12.
Booking
The best way I found to book my stay was through their website. I paid a cash rate of $239.82. I didn’t know at the time of booking but when I checked in they gave me a $12 breakfast voucher for booking direct and not a third party.
Another great feature they give you during the booking process are options where you can add on specific treats. I love this.
Check-in
Checking in was a breeze and like I mentioned above I was pleasantly surprised to receive a $12 breakfast credit.
Room 104
There are five atrium suites in the hotel. They get their name from the 22 ft high atrium that is located in the room. These suites are secluded on the lower level featuring a seating area and mini-bar. Some people may not like these, as there is only one window atop the 22 ft high atrium. However, I enjoyed it because the room was really dark during the night. The only thing I would change inside the room is put a swivel mount on the TV so you could have a clearer view while laying in bed or on the couch.
The bed and pillows were soft which I prefer, and both nightstands had easy access to outlets.
The wet-bar was fully stocked with drinks and local snacks that were appropriately priced.
The Wi-Fi didn’t work great in the room. I had a hard time keeping a signal but when I could connect the speeds was pretty good.
Bathroom
The floor tile was designed with their signature V which I liked but my favorite part was the speakers in the bathroom playing the sound from the TV. It was a great in the mornings that I could listen to ESPN while getting ready.
The hairdryer was good but they should add concentration attachments, and the plush bathrobes were excellent.
Fitness
The gym is located on the lower level with several cardio machines and free weights. The size was perfect for a hotel with only 50 rooms.
Business Center
Located beside the reception desk, they offered a Mac or PC, and the wood tables are from reclaimed wood from the building dating back over 100 years.
Restaurant
The Order Food and Drink seats up to 70 people with a focus on local ingredients paired along side craft cocktails. I ordered the market salad with house-cured sockeye salmon and the white bean hummus. Both were well prepared.
Service
I thought service was well executed. The service at the restaurant and bar was perfect, and the front-desk staff were happy to answer my questions about the property. With the options to add special treats and drinks during the booking process I give service 8.5/10.
Overall
Easily the best hotel in Springfield and the surrounding area, I have no doubt they deserve their AAA four diamond award. I highly recommend staying here if you find yourself in this area.
