The Andaz Savannah has 151 rooms and suites and is located a short walk from some of Savannah’s best attractions, such as Ellis Square, City Market, Savannah’s historic theater district, and the river. Here’s a good description of the history of the Andaz.
The hotel offers a heated pool, 24-hour fitness center, and 22 Square Restaurant and Bar, as well as 24-hour room service. Valet parking is $30 per day.
I booked a king room for two nights on a AAA rate of $143.10 plus tax, totaling $335.42. When I checked in, the receptionist was friendly and pretty much offered any room I wanted. He recommended I take the Ellis Square Suite which I believe is the best room in the hotel. Of course, I took him up on his offer. The Ellis Square Suite was going for $209 per night plus tax, totaling $484.34 for my two nights.
I know I continually beat home the fact that having hotel status is a huge benefit. It’s a beautiful thing to book a standard room and get upgraded for free to the best room in the hotel. I applaud this hotel for offering an upgrade without me having to ask for it.
As I mentioned, the receptionist was great in offering me a better room, and he was quick to get the formalities handled in a timely manner. I wish it were this easy every time.
My suite was room 626, just to the left of the elevators in the corner.
One of the great things about Andaz is they give you free snacks and non-alcoholic drinks every day in the mini-bar. The Keurig coffee machine and safe are also located by the mini-bar.
The bed was more soft than firm, which I prefer, and the pillows were plush. Only one of the nightstands had easy access to an outlet but as a solo traveler, it wasn’t an issue this time.
A nice feature of the room was the walkout balcony. I had views of the river, Hotel Indigo, and Ellis Square. The views at night were the real treat.
If you opened the blinds in the living room, this would be the spot for a concert or some other kind of activity going on at Ellis Square.
The in-room wi-fi was outstanding and for you golf fans they do have the Golf Channel.
Overall, I thought the bedroom was a little funky in its layout and a bit small, but the views were fantastic and the bed and couch were comfortable. I’d love to stay in this room every time I’m in Savannah.
The bathroom had a walk-in shower, vanity area, TV and closet. I was a huge fan of the robes. They weren’t those cheap one-size-fits-all type.
The toiletries were the normal brand they have at most Andaz properties. I like these much more than the standard Hyatt toiletries.
The hairdryer was the ConAir 1875, which is decent.
There’s not much to complain about with the bathroom. The shower had great water pressure, and it was plenty spacious.
The 24-hour fitness center is a bit small but has all the equipment you’d need for a good workout.
The heated pool is located on the second floor and is open 9am-10pm. It offers cabanas, lounge chairs, a fire pit, and food and drink service during the warm months.
The deepest part of the pool is only four feet but for the pool’s size it’s hard to expect much more. Overall, I thought the pool area was fantastic. I really loved all the seating options.
22 Square Restaurant and Bar is a farm-to-table eatery located on the first floor.
I visited the bar for a dirty martini which was fantastic but the pimento deviled eggs I ordered weren’t my favorite.
I visited the restaurant each morning for breakfast and was extremely pleased with each dish. Instead of choosing the buffet, I ordered the chocolate chip ricotta pancakes with chicken sausage and the chicken and waffles off the menu.
Here’s a sample of the menus for 22 Square and room service.
I’ll give service an 8.7. The receptionist was fantastic and the bartender was knowledgeable about the menu when I had questions. The only ones who weren’t outstanding were the waitresses serving breakfast each morning. They were just ok.
I was happy with my stay here. Them being proactive in upgrading me to one of the best rooms in the hotel was great, breakfast each morning was delicious, the public areas were clean and charming, and the location is tough to beat. I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Savannah.
