With a snap of the fingers another birdie putt rolls in. If you are a golf fan you know I’m talking about Chesson Hadley. I’ve known Chesson since his first year on the Web.com Tour in 2013. Since then, Chesson has gone on to win four times on the Web.com Tour, including two this year to make it back to the PGA Tour where he claimed Rookie of the Year in the 2013-2014 season. He also has one career PGA Tour win which came during the 2014 Puerto Rico Open. I expect to see him at the top of a lot of leaderboards this year on the PGA Tour.
Chesson is a proud Raleigh native and a great family man. When he’s not playing golf, he’s spending most of his time with his beautiful wife Amanda and two kids. Also note, if you want a quick way to Chesson’s heart just take the man out to lunch at Bojangles. Trust me.
Like always we are leaving the golf talk out and just focusing on how Chesson travels. Enjoy!
What is your preferred airline? What is your status with them?
My preferred airline is United. I try to fly with them as much as I can. We get awarded Gold level status for being a member of the PGA Tour.
Do you prefer a window or aisle seat?
I don’t particularly care one way or the other, obviously just not a middle seat. I actually get upgraded quite frequently with United because of my status. It’s always a nice surprise when I get that email.
Favorite inflight beverage?
Non-alcoholic = soda water and lime.
Alcoholic = Budweiser, but now some airlines are starting to carry some decent craft brew stuff. I’m never afraid of a good IPA.
What’s one thing you can’t travel without?
I love love love doing crossword puzzles. I don’t have a particular book I go through, but I love the USA Today crosswords.
What’s the best flight you’ve ever taken?
I think the Japan Airlines flight from Tokyo to Malaysia was amazing. I sat in the business class cabin in a lay flat seat. The pod had a remote where you could order food off a menu and the stewardess would bring it to you! It was awesome.
What’s your favorite airport?
I really like Denver, San Fransisco, and Raleigh Durham.
What is your preferred hotel brand, and
I have really enjoyed IHG properties. I think Holiday Inn Express is the best bang for your buck, plus their higher-end stuff is awesome with the Intercontinentals.
City view or water view?
Either one is great with me. I’m very married so I let my wife do the picking.
What’s the best hotel you’ve stayed in?
We had a super sick room one year in Vegas at the Cosmopolitan. It might have been a penthouse suite but I don’t completely remember. The room was at the top and had about 1500 sq ft. It was super nice.
What’s your favorite travel destination?
Napa, Pebble Beach, NYC, and Park City. I just really love traveling.
What’s your dream vacation?
Get to Pebble on Monday and stay at the lodge. Play Pebble Monday, Spyglass Tuesday, Cypress Wednesday. Every night start at Spanish bay and listen to the bag piper play and watch the sun set while having a nice glass of wine. Finish it off with dinner in the Tap Room. Thursday head up to Napa and spend the long weekend in Yountville eating the finest food and drinking the best wine. This would all happen with my lovely bride of course and Ben and Kelly Martin.
Do you keep up with your hotel and airline points?
Absolutely, fortunately for me I have an amazing wife that does all of that for me.
Do you have any travel horror stories?
Of course, traveling with two kids under the age of 4 can get super super dicey when flights get delayed and hotels don’t have your reservations.
With as much travel as you do, What are a few travel tips you have learned along the way?
Stick with one airline and hotel brand if possible. Don’t check luggage if at all possible. Always always always ask locals about the hole in the wall restaurants, those are the best part of traveling in my opinion.
I want to give a big thanks to Chesson for doing this Travel Talk with me. I think I need to be included in his dream vacation, it sounds amazing. Be sure to follow Chesson on Twitter and on his website.
